In this passage, Paul teaches us where true and lasting joy is found — and where it is not found. It is not found in following the false teachers, focusing on our own merits, or fixing our eyes on any earthly thing. Rather, true and lasting joy — the joy that God intends for us to have — is found in the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.
