When we think of Christmas, we rightly turn in our Bibles to Matthew and Luke and read about Joseph and Mary, the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, the Shepherds, Wise Men, the Inn Keeper, Herod, and all the other characters in the Christmas story. However, there are other passages of Scripture — the back stories such as Hebrews 4:14 – 5:10 — that give us further insight and produce a deeper wonder in us when we think about the birth of Jesus in a manger.
This is what Hebrews 4:14 – 5:10 will do. The focus of this passage is on the role of the high priest. There are many passages in the book of Hebrews that focus on Jesus as being our great High Priest from many different perspectives. In this passage, the focus is on the weakness and sympathy of the high priest toward God’s people. That’s why the message is called Jesus – God Who Became Weak.
