In part 1 of this message — Antichrist, Anointing, Abiding — Pastor Kevin sets the stage and helps us understand why these three terms are mentioned in this section of 1 John. In this message, he helps us think through questions like, “Is this passage about end-time events? Is it so we will discover some special gift God gives us?” and “Is it calling us as Christians to the deeper life?” As Pastor Kevin unpacks this passage, he reminds us that in order for us to really understand these three terms, we must first understand the confessional that John refers to — Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. If we do not first understand this, we will go astray in trying to understand these three terms.
